NO RESERVATIONS: RICO

The brief for this project was to create a brand identity, menu card, and outdoor signage for Rico - Barcelona’s latest eco-friendly and flexitarian restaurant in the centre of the city. My main goal for this project was to focus the brand identity on the research of Barcelona’s culture, heritage and history, which I believe I was able to successfully bring to life throughout my brand identity.

Rico blends modern Spanish culture with traditional Catalan heritage that has been gradually fading due to past oppression and conflict. Through visual storytelling, Rico represents more than Catalan food, it brings light to Barcelona’s architecture and art as each design decision, from icons to colours, was intentionally chosen to honour the past and highlight the beauty of Catalan music, art and traditions.

The mosaic-inspired pattern, references Trencadís, and is framed by traditional mosaic borders, that feature the Panot de Flor that can be found across Barcelona’s sidewalks, creating an authentic dining experience for not only flexiterians, but also for anyone who wants to eat healthy and appreciate the culture.
